Faith is the last thing of which most people would accuse atheists! Would you be surprised to learn that faith is a prerequisite of atheism? Why is this? Have you ever discovered a scientific proof that there is no creator? No? Could it be that there is not, and can never be any proof? Why not?
Science can discover how everything in existence was created from something else in existence, but it can never discover what caused existence. Science has consistently discovered that everything in existence is caused by something else in existence. For example, every apple has always been caused by a seed that came from a prior apple which came from a seed from a prior apple and so on and so on. But what caused the first seed? It can’t be the seed before it or it wouldn’t be the first seed. After all, before there were seeds, there were no apples. There must be something other than an apple that caused the first seed. Similarly, there must be something beyond existence that was the cause of the first thing in existence.
To have been a first cause, that something must have been independent of cause. It must exist outside of, and beyond everything it created. It must have always existed. It must be eternal. To have created everything in existence, it must be all-knowing and all-powerful. An all-knowing, all-powerful, eternal being is what most people call their creator.
Is it now clear why science can never find a proof of a creator? Since a creator must be beyond existence it will always be inaccessible to science.
So, if a creator cannot be proven either to, or not to exist, we are left to our own opinion as to whether a creator exists. In the absence of proof, we must rely on our faith in what we believe to be the case.
Faith that a creator does not exist is all that supports the position of non-believers and atheists. But here is what should terrify both. To be sure of their position, their faith must exceed that of believers. Why is this?
It is because of the consequences. If their blind faith, that we were not created, turns out to be ill-founded, than they lose everything when they die. If they fail, or refuse to pursue the sound reasoning that shows their blind faith to be ill-founded, they will have wasted their chance to prepare themselves for the eternal life for which they were created. After all, as far as we know, life on earth has no do-overs. Their faith, that their position is correct, must be strong enough to enable them to ignore overwhelming reason-based evidence that refutes it.
If the sound reasoning, available to us all, in the Meaning of Life Video Series. cannot help them, what can? Only their creator can heal their blindness. However, their creator cannot help unless they confirm they want its help. It cannot impose itself on them without turning them into puppets. It's hard to want what you don't know you're missing. It's hard to ask for the help of something whose existence you deny. Because they can't ask for our creator's help, must the only way we can help them be for us to ask on their behalf?
Is it clear that to take the atheistic position that no creator exists, one’s faith must exceed that of believers? If believers are wrong, they have nothing to lose. If atheists are wrong, they have everything to lose.
Do you have enough faith to be an atheist?
