What is your position on the meaning of life. Have you decided that life has no meaning – “we live, we die, next!”? Have you decided that the meaning of life is to do what you think good people should do? For you, has life’s meaning been defined by your understanding of philosophy or the teachings of your religion? Or have you crafted your meaning of life on your own? If you have accepted one of these positions, what if there were more to it?
Have you noticed the you and your in each of these positions? Could it be that none of them are even close to the real meaning of life? Could it be that, on your own, you will never discover something as profound as the meaning of life? Fortunately, you are not on your own. There is GurusRUs!
At its inception, GurusRUs comprised only “true gurus” – those who eschewed reason
and relied solely on their teachings of “The Way”. As we grew, we added learned atheists, scientists, philosophers, mystics, religious teachers and new age thought leaders. Take religious leaders alone! We cover Confucianism, Taoism, Chinese folk religions, Buddhism, Sikhism, Jainism, Shintoism, Islam, Judaism and even Christianity! Our philosophers offer Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Hindu, Jain, Buddhist and secular philosophies. Our spiritual leaders include Dalai Lama, Alan Watts, Eckhart Tolle, Wayne Dyer, Neville Goddard, Deepak Chopra, Barbara Hubbard, Neale Walsch, Rhonda Byrne, Abraham Hicks and Jaggi Vasudev just to name a few. Atheism anyone? We headline Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens, Daniel Dennett, Stephen Hawking and Laurence Krauss. We truly have something for everyone. You are not alone. However, there is a caveat!
It doesn’t take a lot of investigation to conclude that most of these gurus’ positions vary from those of the others. This divergence leaves one as likely to be led astray as to be led to a sound position. Does that lead you to feel humans are incapable of knowing the meaning of life and to abandon the search? What if you could discern which parts of each of their positions were sound? Might we try reasoning? Does it sound so crazy, it just might work?
Reasoning is a filter for positions. Until any reasoning we apply is refuted, any position that deviates from what it concludes, can be filtered out, and any position supported by it can be confidently pursued. Unrefuted reasoning provides us real, though not absolute, knowledge as sound as any knowledge we possess.
The reasoning in the Meaning of Life Video Series remains unrefuted. It leads to the position that we were created by an omnipresent, omniscient and eternal being who loves what it created, and whose predetermined meaning of their lives is to prepare themselves to share eternal life with it. How does this reasoning substantiate or filter out positions of any of our gurus?
Most obviously, it filters out the positions of atheists. It filters out any aspects of the positions taken by religious, mystical, spiritual and philosophical gurus that maintain that there is no creator. It substantiates the core position of Judaism and Christianity, stated by Thomas Acquinas, that “He who created us without our help will not save us without our consent”.
Once a guru has established the meaning of life to our satisfaction, then it us up to us to pursue the totality of what that position demands of us. All the Alls in The Greatest Commandment and The Neighbour in The Greatest Commandment present examples of how such a search deepens our understanding of what The Greatest Commandment teaches us about the meaning of life.
Gurus enrich what reasoning substantiates. GurusRUs is there to do just that. Check us out!
