Two weeks less a day, prior to this writing, Christians of most denominations celebrated Pentecost. Each year, on the 50th day of Easter, they celebrate the visual descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles in the presence of a great number of people from surrounding countries.
This event is described in Acts 2: 1-15. Because nothing like this has ever happened before or since, it is not surprising that many people dismiss it as an hallucination or, worse, a falsified report. How likely is it this really happened? More importantly, why does it matter to you whether it did or did not?
On the first question, several known things lead to the conclusion that it did happen. Firstly, we know, as well as we know anything, that our creator wants us to become at one with it. If you doubt this, you may find that the reasoning in the Meaning of Life Video Series helps you dismiss that doubt. Secondly, we know that, by giving us free will, our creator made its
desire dependent on our free choice to become at one with it. Thirdly, we know that, for us to freely make that choice, we need to get to know our creator. And there’s the rub!
Our creator cannot disclose its magnificence without overpowering our free will, making us mere puppets. Our creator had to enable us to get to know it by gradually revealing bits about itself directly into our minds. Reasoning, supporting these conclusions, can be found in Is Your Creator Awaiting a Response to Its Constant Outreach.
Our creator began by revealing itself to the Jewish prophets. Because they often misinterpreted what they discovered in their minds, and the Jewish people often dismissed what they revealed, our creator next chose to speak to us by coming to us as God Incarnate. Again, because this has never happened before or since, its not surprising that many people do not accept that Jesus was God Incarnate. Reasoning, supporting that Jesus was God Incarnate, can be found in How Can a Man be God?. The New Testament of the Bible records what Jesus was able to reveal to us in three short years, including that He had much more to reveal to us than we could then bear. In John 16: 7-14, Jesus attests to what was to become visible on Pentecost. God Incarnate confirmed that His words would continue to come into our minds through the Holy Spirit after He could no longer speak to us. And there’s the second rub!
We can only discover what our creator is putting into our minds when we search our minds for it. We can only come closer to knowing our creator, and so become at one with it when we digest what we discover in our minds. You will find suggestions as to how you can achieve this in Become At One with Creator.
All this brings us to the second question, “Why does all this matter to you?”. The first reason is that you need to internalize the knowledge, that the Holy Spirit reveals, and that we could not bear while Jesus was alive. Only in this way, can you learn to adequately love our creator, all its children and so become at one with it. The second reason is that the process of becoming at one with your creator provides you with ongoing experiences of a joyful intimacy throughout your lifetime on Earth. As we explore in The Treasure of Intimacy, intimacy with your creator exceeds any other intimacy you can experience on Earth. Are revelations and experiences of intimacy not the many gifts of the Holy Spirit?
